Weight Guidance for Air Cargo
- Air freight is applied to the heavier weight between gross weight and volume weight
- Gross Weight : weight of cargo measured on a scale
- Volume Weight : volume (width*length*height(cm)) of cargo divided by 6,000 (IATA Policy)
Ex.) Assume a cargo is 100kg with 110*110*110cm, the gross weight is 100kg and the volume weight is 222kg.
The weight of the cargo applied by the airline is 222kg which is the heavier weight between two.
If the volume of ocean cargo (CBM) is replaced to the air weight, 1CBM is about 167kg. (100*100*100cm / 6,000 = 167kg)
